Sheepskin Coat

by Tony Allen Bernier

This sheepskin coat was completely designed and hand sewn by Tony. He spent two months developing the original leathercraft style patterns and prototypes before beginning the final coat. Every pattern piece includes pre-marked stitching holes and measurements to simplify the build process for DIY crafters and others interested in making one themselves. The patterns are available here and the instructional video here.

After years of making sheepskin items and repairing sheepskin coats, Tony identified the areas most prone to wear and reinforced them throughout the design. He tested multiple methods for sewing sheepskin, constructing buttonholes, and building the collar to determine the most durable techniques.

He also focused heavily on comfort and fit. The coat features a large draping collar, wider sleeves for warmth and mobility, and a balanced mid-length cut designed to suit a wide range of body types. The pattern includes 10 sizes ranging from XS to XXXL, along with sleeve length options for different arm lengths or the option to either fold the cuff or leave the hem showing.
